Our First Week at virtualDCS – By Spike and Lanre.
Walking into the office park was the most exciting and confusing part of my day, armed with my laptop and my friend Lanry, our first task was finding the office within a labyrinth of our own anxiety and seemingly endlessly repeating buildings, neither of us really knew what to expect from our placement other than that we would be doing social media. But now we are through the first week and WOW how exciting has it been! Feeling like a valuable member of the team helping to contribute towards something great, here is our honest opinion and the start of our story at virtualDCS.
Day One: An Expected Journey
On day one we jumped straight into the deep end, our coworkers/mentors Nikki and Megan were super supportive during this helping us to generate ideas and put us on a good path to help create content and posts, on this day we also furthered our knowledge on corporate content posts, learning there is a lot more than just posting for likes, as well as the need for good team collaboration and communication.
Learning Curve: Steeper than Mount Doom
The biggest surprise we encountered was the amount of thought and processing behind each post, it’s not as simple as taking a nice photo of the office and adding a funny caption to it or just posting a sentence about tech and hoping people like it, everything posted needs to be made with the aim of getting interactions, to build a strong and credible social media presence.
Our favourite parts from the week were:
- Created our first video and began editing it.
- Created plans and analysed competitors to see what they post.
- We started writing these blogs.
- Learnt about what we were posting and for who.
Looking ahead:
As we head into our second week at virtualDCS, we are both thrilled to get another opportunity to gather resources for the social media posts and start generating more content and proposing them to Megan to see what she thinks. We’ll be taking more initiative and direction to shape virtualDCS social media.
Final thoughts:
If there was one thing we’ve learnt that can sum everything up it’s that doing social media and marketing is much harder and more challenging than we first expected, but keep an eye out for more updates as we further develop our skills.
Thank you to everyone at virtualDCS for this opportunity and your warm welcome into the company and we hope not to disappoint you. And hopefully, we have an amazing few months together!
